Cowboy FandangobyMichael Hurwitz and The Aimless DriftersMeadowlark Records Prod ID MLR#007 COWBOY FANDANGOby Michael Hurwitz and The Aimless Drifters On his latest release "Cowboy Fandango" (Meadowlark Records 2007), Michael adds a little more cowboy shuffle to his signature "Prairie Blues" sound to take us, through 13 original songs, on a guided tour of the West as he knows it. From the prairies, mountains and plains of Wyoming, to the ranches, dance-halls and honky-tonks. It's a sometimes edgy, always interesting ride. His songs are peopled by a cast of characters as diverse as the landscape they inhabit. There're cowboys and cowgirls, outlaws and bankers, bartenders and beauty queens - quirky horses, dancing badgers, ghosts and aliens. Funny and bittersweet, there's an overall sense of joy that runs through the songs making the listener feel easy in this wild and often crazy place that Hurwitz calls home. Mike is joined on "Cowboy Fandango" by his longtime touring and recording band "The Aimless Drifters" on pedal steel, mandolin, fiddle, piano, harp, bass and drums complementing his warm baritone singing and fluid guitar playing with a good-time country roadhouse or plaintive lonesome cowboy groove that fits the songs perfectly, with guest appearances by Juni Fisher, Pop Wagner, and Nancy Thorwardson. The cover art is by the much lauded Montana artist and snake handler Parks Reece.
BLUE COYOTEbyMichael Hurwitz and The Aimless DriftersMeadowlark Records Prod ID MLR#006 BLUE COYOTEby Michael Hurwitz and The Aimless Drifters
Blue Coyote (Meadowlark Records 2006) is a bakers dozen of, traditional blues songs from the 1920s to the 1950s. Michael plays a variety of acoustic and resonator guitars, showing his command of various classic blues styles - from Piedmont fingerstyle to Delta slide, country flat-picking to open tunings and Travis-picking. He takes these, and with the help of his long-time band of excellent players "The Aimless Drifters" on pedal steel, mandolin, bass, harp, accordion, and drums, stirs them into the tasty gumbo of western-swing, old timey, Tex-Mex, cowboy, rockabilly, urban and country blues, and honky-tonk he calls "Prairie Blues".
